I live in Pittsburgh, PA and wanted to attend a scheduled business conference in Florida. I have accumulated frequent flyer miles on American Airlines, some of which were exchanged for round trip airline ticket from Pittsburgh to Miami.
I also purchased a Allianz travel insurance policy (for $24) from the credit card company during the same phone call in which I booked the travel. Today I learned that the event had been cancelled. I called the credit card company and for a payment of $140 I was able to have the frequent flyer miles returned to my account. When I went to the Allianz website to file a claim for the $140 the website wouldn't accept my information so I called them.
After providing the policy number to the Allianz claims agent he put me on hold to check the policy.
He advised me that "cancellation of an event" isn't covered by the policy. I'm not an attorney and so I wouldn't understand the fine print of the policy anyway.
